Production operator – China – Liutech

“Ask ‘why’ often, and share your ideas”

Along with his colleagues, Electrical Assembly Operator Hua Sheng Wei plays a key role in ensuring the safety, quality and performance of factory operations as well as the resulting portable air compressors. And it does not end there. Hua Sheng is also helping to shape technological improvements – and a stronger team.

As an electrician, safety and quality control are crucial factors for Hua Sheng. Before production starts each day, there are equipment checks to perform.

“I treat each machine like my own child, paying attention to every detail, suggesting improvements, and ensuring that every machine meets the highest quality standards,” he says.

Once the equipment is confirmed to be in good working order, production starts. Currently, Hua Sheng is in charge of electrical installation-related tasks. Any machinery that involves electrical circuits falls within his scope of responsibility.

“Primarily, I work on portable air compressors. They come in two types based on the drive mechanism. One is electric motor-driven, suitable for places with a stable power supply. The other is diesel engine-driven, designed for outdoor locations without electricity, offering greater mobility,” says Hua Sheng.

Collaboration and improving products

When Hua Sheng joined the company, he was looking for more than just a job. He wanted to grow professionally.

“When I applied for this job, I hoped to learn more through my work, participate in improvement projects across various departments, apply what I've learned, enhance my skills, and contribute to the production of better machines for the company,” he says.

That hope has become reality. Hua Sheng has been involved in collaboration across departments on new projects, where factory workers like him are invited to contribute ideas on improving machine performance and installation efficiency.

“This cross-departmental collaboration has taught me a lot,” he says and adds that he also got the chance to spend a few months in the service department and has provided after-sales service to customers.

“Through these experiences, I gained insights into customer needs and how machines are used in different settings, which has been very helpful for my work.”

Quick facts about
Hua Sheng

Hua Sheng looks back at one example of his experience and knowledge coming in particularly handy. It happened during a project involving machine models that required the installation of an electronic oil pump. Its wiring was separate from the main electric core, which did not seem ideal to Hua Sheng.

“I felt that this not only made the layout less aesthetically pleasing but also increased the risk of machine operation due to the excessive number of connections, potentially reducing stability. So, I suggested to the technical engineers that the wiring for the electronic oil pump be integrated into the main electric core,” he says.

Hua Sheng’s suggestion was adopted, not only solving the immediate problem but also improving the overall quality of the product.

A team spirit of support and growth

The team spirit is what Hua Sheng appreciates most about working at Atlas Copco Group.

“The company not only focuses on technological development and innovation but also cares deeply about the growth and well-being of its employees," he says.

"I feel a close cooperation and mutual support among team members.”

Hua Sheng takes an active role in nurturing this team spirit. He describes how he proactively communicates with colleagues, shares his ideas and experiences, all while taking in others' opinions and suggestions. This way they can discuss solutions together. And the sense of togetherness goes beyond the factory floor.

“Additionally, I organize team activities outside of work, such as playing basketball, running, or small outdoor gatherings, to enhance mutual understanding and trust among team members,” Hua Sheng says.

Advice for new colleagues

When asked what advice he would give to a new colleague, Hua Sheng focuses on tips on how to get your bearings.

“Firstly, learn the company's operating procedures, ask "why" often, and share your ideas. Don't overly worry about whether you can handle the job. The experienced workers are always willing to help newcomers. Most importantly, always keep in mind that safety comes first; only by protecting yourself can you do your job well.”
