The John Munck Award, established in 1988, is presented each year to reward the person or group of persons having produced the best innovative technical development contribution during the year.

This year, The John Munck Award is presented to Oliver Rudge, Nick Hutton, Glen Croft, Gary Lord and Matthew Key in the Scientific Vacuum division.

The John Munck award 2022 went to the Scientific Vacuum division and more specifically Oliver Rudge, Nick Hutton, Glen Croft, Gary Lord and Matthew Key. They developed a robust and highly compact gauge, which can reliably measure and control the vacuum level in basically any application, due to its robust filament, compact size, LED light ring indicator and integrated set points.

They are presented the award for developing a robust and highly compact gauge, able to reliably measure and control the vacuum level in basically any applications, due to its robust filament, compact size, LED light ring indicator and integrated set points.

Tougher emission requirements and raised ambitions are prompting a shift in the construction and mining industries. This solar-powered light tower is lighting the way.
Atlas Copco’s HiLight S2+ solar light tower was launched in 2021.

Smart team + Smart phone = Smart product

What if industrial manufacturers could adjust the speed and energy consumption of their vacuum pumps from remote, depending on their current production flow? Meet two of the innovators behind the DZS VSD+ dry claw vacuum pump that can be controlled by a smartphone app. This market-leading technology brings cost cuttings through decreased power usage, and competitors are scrambling to catch up.
The designated VSD+ app allows the user to commission, control and monitor his vacuum pump.

VSD reduced energy usage for metal recycling

Did you know that your mobile phone is a veritable gold mine? Boliden Rönnskär is one the world’s leading smelters for recovery of metals. Here circuit boards are converted into pure metal which can be used in new products. The process is energy intensive, but with the assistance of Atlas Copco the smelter is now on the right track to reduce its energy consumption by more than 1 million kWh per year.
Boliden Rönnskär in northern Sweden is one of the world’s leading players in electronics metal recycling.
