What does a patent engineer do at the Atlas Copco Group in Wilrijk? As a patent engineer you will join our international intellectual property department and take full responsibility for coordinating ip activities across our business areas. Working closely with product engineers, project engineers, and inventors, you identify patentable innovations, analyze proposals, and formulate robust filing strategies while being actively involved in drafting and prosecuting applications. Part of your daily flow as a patent engineer involves collaborating with a worldwide network of ip law firms to optimize our global market position. You support various product companies within compressor technique and power technique in rolling out comprehensive ip policies and give targeted ip trainings to internal employees.

Additionally, you optimize our freedom-to-operate by monitoring third-party ip rights, implementing competitive ip strategies, and aligning with other group ip teams to drive continuous optimization. You will report to the team leader within the intellectual property department and work via a hybrid model at our facility in Wilrijk.

• Master degree in engineering such as mechanics, electronics, ict, or chemistry, or physics, or equivalent experience

• Experience in patent searching and analysis, drafting patent applications, or preparing replies to office actions

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a clear focus on technical quality and results

• Structured, proactive, and hands-on approach with the ability to prioritize effectively in an international team environment

• Professional fluency in English combined with native-level skills in Dutch or French

• Motivation to complete additional professional training and qualify as a European Patent Attorney

This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, allowing you to split your time between working remotely and being on-site at our office in Wilrijk.
