
Your role
This summer project focuses on enhancing and future-proofing a well-established industrial product by transitioning from a proprietary compiler to GCC. Originally released nearly 20 years ago, the product remains widely used today across the global automotive and industrial sectors. You will contribute to modernizing a critical technology platform, helping to ensure its long-term maintainability and continued success. Your work will play an important part in enabling more efficient development and support for years to come.
You will be working as part of a team of experienced software engineers who will support and guide you throughout the project, providing valuable insights and mentorship along the way.
You will:
- Set up a cross-compiler for PowerPC (preferably in WSL)
- “Migrate” assembler code from a proprietary compiler to the GCC compiler
- Build Boot / Application using GCC instead of proprietary
- Test the GCC-built Boot / Application
To succeed, you will need
- An Engineering student background (preferably year 3-4)
- Experience of working with Assembly language
- Independent and responsible in driving tasks forward
- Strong written and spoken English, for documentation and meetings
- Structured way of working and high attention to detail
- Value collaboration
