Purpose of the Job

The Azure Data Platform Owner is responsible for ensuring the availability, reliability, and scalability of the data platform. The role leads a team of data engineers to deliver high-quality, reusable, and secure data solutions that serve multiple business functions. Acting as the primary owner of the cloud data platform, this role bridges technology, operations, and delivery, enabling the business to generate value from data.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Manage and evolve the Azure data platform (Databricks, Data Factory, ADLS, Azure SQL, etc.) to support enterprise data and analytics needs.
  • 80% Technical profile and 20% Functional Profile.
  • Lead and mentor a team of data engineers to deliver data pipelines, integrations, and reusable assets.
  • Ensure platform management, including access control, performance optimization, and cost management.
  • Oversee day-to-day platform operations, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident resolution.
  • Collaborate with the Enterprise Data Architect to align platform design with architectural standards and future roadmap.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to enable data solutions while ensuring quality, security, and compliance. · Drive automation, best practices, and continuous improvement across the data engineering team and platform.

Skills / Knowledge / Experience

Must Have skills:

  • 8+ years of overall IT, data engineering/platform experience, with at least 2-3 years in a team management or platform/product owner role.
  • Extensive expertise in Cloud/Azure Data Services (Databricks, Data Factory, ADLS, Azure SQL, Synapse).
  • Proven experience in building and managing large-scale data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.
  • Solid understanding of data modeling, warehousing, and governance practices.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of data engineers.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to resolve technical issues quickly.
  • Knowledge of cost optimization and resource management within Azure.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience working in cross-functional teams.

Nice to have skills:

  • Experience with streaming data technologies (Event Hub, Kafka, IoT).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, DevOps practices, and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, ARM, Bicep).
  • Knowledge of Power BI or other visualization tools for end-to-end data enablement.
  • Understanding of cost optimization and FinOps practices in cloud environments.
  • Experience working in a multi-cloud or hybrid data environment.
  • Familiarity with machine learning/AI integration on Azure.
