Atlas Copco awards recognize innovative customer focus and groundbreaking compressor

March 7, 2014

Stockholm, Sweden, March 7, 2014: Atlas Copco’s two most prestigious awards will this year recognize customer-focused innovation centers and a groundbreaking compressor that sets a new industry standard in energy efficiency.  The awards will be presented to the winners at the Annual General Meeting on April 29.

The Peter Wallenberg Award goes to Olaf Leonhardt and Andreas Kiefer, who developed a global innovation center concept in Atlas Copco’s product company SCA GmbH within the Industrial Technique business area. At the innovation centers around the world, customers mainly from the automotive industry get the opportunity to work closely with SCA’s employees to test adhesive solutions. This gives the customers a key role from a very early stage in shaping the solutions they need.

The John Munck Award for technical innovations is presented to the team at Atlas Copco Airpower in Belgium that developed the GA VSD+compressor: Bert Derom, Andries Desiron, Tine Hellebuyck and Joris Derde. This compressor, introduced in 2013 after several years of research and development, can cut energy consumption by half compared to traditional fixed-speed compressors. Its greatest innovation is the integration of the interior permanent magnet motor with the compressor element, creating a lighter, quieter and more efficient machine.

“Both the innovation centers and the new compressor are great examples of our determination to enhance customer productivity,” said Ronnie Leten, President and CEO of the Atlas Copco Group. “We will continue to put great focus on developing innovative products and service to help our customers.”

The Peter Wallenberg Marketing and Sales Award recognizes the most innovative successfully implemented method in the field of sales and marketing.
The John Munck Award is presented each year to a product developer or designer, or a team, for outstanding contributions to the overall quality of an Atlas Copco product.
