Title: Team Leader - Trade Compliance (Classification & Export Control).
Purpose - GECIA is supporting Atlas Copco entities in different areas including Trade Compliance (HS Classifications, Sanctions and Export Controls, Screening, Conflict Minerals reporting, Dangerous Goods, SCRM etc.).
These activities have become quite voluminous & require a well-coordinated, focussed & integrated approach. Additionally, to enhance the efficiency, there is a need to implement digitalisations in these areas to reduce the repetitive tasks & improve the accuracy.
Job description:
Lead, guide and co-ordinate with the team members, serving as the single point of contact for classification and Export Control. Your mission is to provide high-quality services to Product Companies, Customer Centers, and Distribution Centers.
In this role you will play a crucial role in ensuring smooth international trade compliance while minimizing costs and risks.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Lead & motivate the trade compliance team in:

- Handling requests for HS classification and screening for export controls (dual use) in accordance with WCO & WTO guidelines and country-specific regulations.
- Analysing the products specifications, the technical drawings, and other relevant documentation and having co-ordination with the technical team to determine the appropriate HS classification in line with international customs regulations.
- Understanding and correctly applying the General Rules of Interpretation (GRI).
- Maintaining the records of HS classifications, including its justification.
- Communicating with the global customers & resolving the technical queries/issues raised by customs authorities.
- Coordinate and monitor timely completion of classification and Export control activities.
- Conduct audit on HS classifications, and to suggest corrective action and training, if required.
- Stay abreast of the amendments and the developments in customs & export controls regulations, tariff codes, trade policies, etc.
- Ensure optimal resource utilization for on-time delivery, cost control, and meeting SLA requirements.
- Develop, define, and implement the high-level competency model and digitalisation techniques like RPA, Data analytics, etc.
- Foster the ability of teams to work effectively with cross-functional technical teams.
- Develop and improve knowledge transfer processes, update on the latest amendments, and provide training to support the technical growth of the team. Organize e-learning courses (basic knowledge) and classroom sessions for advanced knowledge.
- Demonstrate excellent relationship skills with the ability to collaborate, engage & manage with customers.
- Coordinate with the customers to resolve the technical queries/issues raised by customs authorities.
- Report the status of HS classification, screening of Export control and SLA to the customers.
- Participate in internal and external audits related to HS classification and Export control.
- Regularly review and update the Standard Operating Procedure to improve HS classification and Export Control processes, enhancing efficiency.
Knowledge and experience requirements.
- Sound foundation in basic engineering.
- Good understanding of GRI Rules, international sanctions and export control regulations.
- A total of 7 to 8 years of experience in trade compliance (HS Classification/export controls) with minimum 3 years of experience as a Team Leader.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English language is a must.
- Good working knowledge of MS Office application software. Proficiency in MS Excel, BPCS and SAP-GTS is an added advantage.
- Proven leadership and management abilities to optimize team performance and development.
- Effective teamwork skills to achieve organizational goals at all business levels.
- Results-oriented with the ability to plan and execute projects within timelines and with high accuracy.
- Hands on experience in HS classification and screening of export control.
- Strong focus on prioritizing assignments and multitasking capabilities.
- Confidence in technical knowledge and analytical skills to learn and fulfill responsibilities.
- Problem-solving skills to anticipate critical issues, independently pursue matters, form opinions, and make decisions in critical situations.
Educational requirements:
- Minimum a Bachelor degree in any engineering discipline.
