Main purpose of the Role  

                                               As the Supplier Quality Engineer, you will play a crucial role within the Supply Chain team

                                                taking responsibility for the auditing and control of Walker Filtration’s Supplier quality.

                                                Working closely with the purchasing and quality team, your focus will be to set clear quality expectations and monitor supplier performance, developing the solutions that are a key part of most industries.

You will be responsible for evaluating managing and optimising supplier process quality maintaining the highest quality standards within our supply chain. As SQA Engineer you will collaborate closely with various internal departments while building strong, lasting external partnerships with suppliers.

Reporting to the Head of Supply Chain, you will drive a proactive quality culture, upholding Walker Filtration’s core values of innovation, interaction, and personal commitment.

                                                specifications at all times. Through regular audits and follow up actions

Direct responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a supplier quality management system to meet the needs of the organisation.
  • Prepare and implement an audit schedule across the current supply base, ensuring detailed and informative visit and audit reports are completed. Prospective suppliers to be audited as identified.
  • Full ownership of the SNCR process, including working to and enforcing adherence by all stakeholders involved, concluding on issue resolutions with appropriate root cause fixes, improving the process where necessary and regularly reporting KPI’s.
  •  Maintain up-to-date tooling register and maintenance logs to ensure quality standards are sustained; all tooling must be identified and accounted for with planned maintenance scheduled and monitored.
  • Complete tooling and sample approvals from a quality perspective of both new and current tools in-line with tooling maintenance logs.
  • Support the production department leading root cause analysis
  • Provide training to process manufacturing engineers in casting and forging techniques, helping align the value chain.
  • Support NPI and Product Changes; assisting supplier selection for process capabilities, assessing PAPP (ISIR’S & PSW’s) submissions, and drawing control

Development of a Supplier Quality culture

  • Benchmarking activities to be completed with existing suppliers and potential new suppliers. Findings to be incorporated into supplier development plans or Walker Filtration Purchasing Strategies. 
  • Develop and foster effective working relationships with suppliers, adopting an open and honest approach based on factual evidence.
  • Raise the profile of quality standards and effective monitoring techniques through education and enforcement amongst internal and external stakeholders. Formal presentations may be required.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to resolve any product quality issues

Analysis and Reporting

  • Maintain up-to-date records of supplier accreditations.
  • Work to Engineering Change process ensuring all related documentation and actions are completed.
  • Establish PPM targets focusing on achieving ‘zero defects’

Criteria

Relevant experience

  • 5  years’ of experience in industrial manufacturing role & 3-5 year experience in supplier Auditing
  • Experience of working to ISO quality standards
  • Proven ability of managing projects to required standards
  • A solid technical background
  • Experienced in reading, understanding and interpreting technical drawings
  • Experienced in a range of manufacturing processes including casting, injection moulding and machining

Education and Training

  •  Degree educated in an Engineering field or equivalent experience; additional training in     Quality  Management is a plus
  • Fully conversant with TQM, FMEA, SPC
  • Problem solving techniques A3,8D,4D,3C
  • Lean Six Sigma tools and techniques (DMAIC process)
  • Proficiency in MS Office and applied statistics (SPC CPK analysis)
