Your Role
The Engineer III works on a cross-functional team to develop innovative products and technology released to the market. They are responsible for all aspects of engineering design, analysis, prototyping, test, and documentation of components and assemblies for Montana Instruments technology and products. This position supports new product introductions, new technology developments, and sustaining engineering efforts; striving to release designs on schedule and under budget while meeting internal and external customer expectations and specifications.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities, and Expectations
· Develop new products and technologies from concept to production
· Design complex mechanical components, assemblies, and systems
· Create and release engineering drawings, reports, and presentations
· Conduct thorough analysis, build prototypes, develop test plans, and conduct tests to verify and validate new designs
· Align with cross-functional team including electrical engineering and software engineering to ensure designs integrate into overall system architecture
· Collaborate closely with other departments including manufacturing and project management to communicate needs, clear project roadblocks, accomplish tasks, and align work with company priorities
· Manage own time and lead projects when required
· Manage development of mechanical sub-systems that integrate into overall system design
· Participate in technical design reviews, providing feedback to enhance quality and performance
To succeed, you will need
· Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Electrical, or Software Engineering, or related technical discipline.
· 5-8 years relevant work experience
· Experience in product development environment
Competencies // Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s)
· Strong understanding of engineering principles including mechanics, thermodynamics, and materials science and the ability to intuitively and effectively utilize them
· Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. Solidworks)
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
· Effective communication skills with ability to articulate complex technical concepts across the organization
· Able to prioritize several concurrent projects and multitask.
· Action-oriented self-starter, able to work in a fast-paced environment with accuracy/efficiency.
· In-depth knowledge of mechanical drawing standards (ASMEY14) and best practices for manufacturing parts and assemblies.
· Experience with ERP systems and understanding of engineering and manufacturing interface with these systems.
· Experience running projects.
· Preferred: experience with vacuum and/or cryogenic systems
· Preferred: experience with vibrations design and analysis
· Preferred: experience with design simulation including finite element analysis
