What inspired you to pursue a career in engineering?

My route into engineering wasn't a traditional one. I've worked across different industries throughout my career, and each role has helped me build skills that I use today.

A big part of my role here at Desoutter is helping translate complex engineering concepts into stories that resonate with customers and the wider market. I enjoy acting as the bridge between my team's technical expertise and the people who benefit from their work, helping to showcase the impact of what they do in a way that's accessible and engaging.

What does success look like to you?

For me, success is about continuous learning, building meaningful relationships and knowing you've made a positive impact. I’ve had the opportunity to work with colleagues and customers from different countries and cultures, which has broadened my perspective and helped me develop both professionally and personally. As well as achieving targets, it's about growing, creating value and building connections along the way.

What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?

That I don't come from an engineering background. Working across different industries over the last 20 years has meant getting up to speed on new topics, technologies and markets with every role. It's taught me that curiosity, adaptability and a willingness to keep learning are some of the most valuable skills you can have.

What does Women in Engineering Day mean to you?

I see Women in Engineering Day as an opportunity to shine a light on stories that deserve to be heard. Representation matters. When young women see others succeeding in engineering, it helps them imagine themselves doing the same.

What advice would you give to young women considering a career in engineering?

Back yourself and don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Some of the best opportunities in my career have come from saying yes to something new before I felt completely ready.

Also, remember that setbacks are part of everyone's journe, learn from them, go again, and don't let it knock your confidence.
