Thirty years ago, returning to the workforce felt like stepping into the unknown.
"I was terrified about going back into the workforce and learning how to navigate a computer system when I had only ever worked on manual systems."
What began with uncertainty soon became the foundation of a remarkable career—one defined by resilience, adaptability and a genuine passion for helping others.
An Opportunity That Changed Everything
After taking 3 years away from work, she applied for a Credit Controller role at Ash Air. While she wasn't selected for the position, former leader Eddie Simpson saw something more. Knowing her strengths after more than 8 years, Eddie recognised that her talents lay beyond credit control and created a role that better suited her skills.
"I applied for a Credit Controller role after taking 3 years off work. I didn't get that position. Eddie knew chasing people for money wasn't really me, but he created a role specifically for me, and I grew into it from there."
That opportunity became the beginning of a career that has evolved alongside the business for three decades, a powerful reminder of what can happen when leaders invest in people and believe in their potential.
Growing with the Business
Over the past 30 years, she has seen significant transformation—not only in technology but also in the scope of her own role.
From working with dot matrix systems in Ash Air's early days to embracing new digital platforms and business systems, she has continually adapted to change while expanding her own capabilities. Her role has grown to support multiple branches and a diverse range of responsibilities, including administration, warranty management, logistics, insurance claims, health and safety, and much more.
Her willingness to learn, adapt and embrace new challenges has made her an invaluable part of the team.
Making a Lasting Impact
When asked about the achievement she is most proud of, her answer reflects her dedication to both personal growth and helping others succeed.
"Learning each new system that has been introduced and being able to adapt easily, while helping both new and existing staff with problem-solving and training."
Her experience, patience and willingness to share knowledge have helped countless colleagues build confidence and succeed in their own roles.
It's the People Who Make the Difference
Ask her what has made the past 30 years so rewarding, and the answer is simple—the people.
She speaks fondly of Eddie Simpson, whose belief in her changed the course of her career, and John Manley, whom she describes as a close friend of 28 years. She also reflects on the many colleagues who have made work enjoyable over the decades.
"We've worked well as a team and had a lot of laughs along the way. So many people have brought something special to the company, and now I'm making new friends within Atlas Copco."
These relationships are a reflection of the supportive culture that continues to shape our workplace today.

"Never change a system to what you think might work without consulting others and trialling it."

"I never thought I would still be working here, but I enjoy my job, the people, and the challenges the work brings."

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to do a job that I enjoy and for the great friends I've made along the way. We've gone through good times and bad times together, and I'm content with what I have achieved."
