Why Techno Ninjas?
With this initiative, we want to introduce children aged 7 to 14 to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) in a playful way. At a time when fewer young people choose technical fields, Atlas Copco Group aims to show them how fun and creative technology can be.
Three Action-Packed Workshops
- The youngest group (7–8 years) built their own water filter and learned how to ‘capture’ sunlight on paper.
- The 9–11-year-olds designed a light artwork with LEDs and programmed the colors and effects themselves.
- The oldest group (12–14 years) created a 3D design of a keychain that will later be printed—and they can continue using the program at home.
All workshops were designed and guided by Atlas Copco Group employees. This way, children not only got a taste of technology but also a behind-the-scenes look at Atlas Copco Group.
A Day Full of Inspiration
Techno Ninjas has been organized annually since 2016 by Pleiades, the international employee network of Atlas Copco Group. This ninth edition was another great success: enthusiastic children, proud parents, and a team of volunteers who made it all possible.
"We notice that children are extremely enthusiastic when they can discover technology themselves," says Wim Bouwen, VP R&D & Shared Engineering Services. "By letting them build and program in a playful way, we hope they will choose a STEM path later on."
"Our Techno Ninja events are always fully booked in no time," adds Suki Maesen, founding member of Pleiades. "Especially among the youngest, we see huge interest. As soon as they can build or program something themselves and experience that technology is creative and fun, they start to shine. That’s exactly what we want to achieve: spark that first moment of wonder."
Who knows—we may have inspired the engineers and innovators of tomorrow!
