Atlas Copco Airpower in Wilrijk is rolling out one of the largest charging plazas in Belgium, with nearly 700 charging points for electric cars and bicycles, thanks to the opening of a new parking facility.

Charging points for electric vehicles and bicycles

With the opening of the new parking building, the number of charging points at the Atlas Copco Airpower site rises to 480 for electric cars and 210 for electric bicycles. For the installation, Atlas Copco Airpower partnered with e-RS Belgium, a trusted provider of charging solutions.

"Sustainable mobility is an essential part of our long-term vision. With the new parking facility, we are not only investing in comfort and safety but actively contributing to a future where electric transport takes center stage."

The collaboration is also appreciated by e-RS Belgium. “We are proud that our charging solutions can contribute to one of the largest charging plazas in the country,” says Evi Van der Plas, CEO of e-RS Belgium BV.

New parking facility as part of master plan and sustainability strategy

The new 10,000 m² parking building has three floors and offers space for more than 1,200 vehicles, 250 bicycles, and 80 motorcycles. This investment is part of the master plan launched in 2022 and supports Atlas Copco Group’s broader sustainability strategy. Atlas Copco Group aims to reduce emissions from its own operations worldwide by 46% by 2030 compared to 2019. In addition to charging solutions, the Wilrijk site is investing in nearly 5,000 solar panels and sources 16,000 MWh of wind energy from the North Sea through a Power Purchase Agreement with Engie. Energy efficiency is also systematically audited by external organizations.

Mobility options for employees

Atlas Copco Airpower promotes sustainable mobility through a cafeteria plan. Employees can choose a bicycle leasing program or a fully electric car leasing program. In this way, the company contributes to making commuting more sustainable.

“We want every employee to have access to a bicycle or electric car through our cafeteria plan. This way, we support Atlas Copco Group’s broader sustainability strategy,” says Alain de Dauw, HR Manager at Atlas Copco Airpower.
