Cyber threats are constantly evolving. That is why continued attention to cybersecurity remains essential to protect our information, systems, and business operations. As part of Cyber Security Awareness Month, employees of Atlas Copco Group in Belgium had the opportunity to test their knowledge and vigilance in an interactive way during the Escape Challenge in the Cyber Escape Truck.

A Race Against Time

The mission was clear: a bomb inside the truck had to be defused within 25 minutes. To succeed, participants had to solve a series of challenges based on situations they might encounter in their daily digital lives.

Several cybersecurity topics were addressed throughout the challenge. For example, participants had to decide how they would handle a USB stick found in a drawer. Those who plugged the USB stick into a computer without thinking were confronted with the potential consequences of that decision. Participants who correctly reported the suspicious device were rewarded for their vigilance.

Phishing awareness was also put to the test. Participants were presented with several emails and had to determine which messages were trustworthy and which showed signs of a potential phishing attack. Only after correctly identifying the risks did they receive the next clues needed to continue.

Besides being an educational experience, the escape challenge also generated a great deal of enthusiasm and teamwork. Most importantly, all participants successfully defused the bomb in time and exited the truck safely.

Awareness in Practice

The Cyber Security Escape Challenge demonstrated that cybersecurity goes far beyond technology alone. Everyday choices and actions often play a crucial role in protecting our systems and data. By experiencing realistic scenarios in an interactive environment, participants gained insight into how cybercriminals operate and learned what steps everyone can take to reduce risks.
