A natural wonder under threat
Every winter, thousands of giant cuttlefish migrate to South Australia's Upper Spencer Gulf for their spectacular breeding season. But in 2025, this natural wonder faced a serious threat: a record-breaking toxic algal bloom.
Technology that transforms the future
To protect this fragile ecosystem, Atlas Copco Specialty Rental and Canadian Pond, in collaboration with the South Australian Department of Environment and Water, launched Australia’s first large-scale oil-free bubble curtain. Covering 20,000 m² of critical habitat, the system delivered 1,600 cfm of Class Zero oil-free air through Bubble Tubing®, powered by Atlas Copco’s ZT160FFVSD compressors and QAC1100 TwinPower units.

This rapid 10-day deployment safeguarded up to 80,000 cuttlefish eggs and set a new benchmark for marine conservation innovation.
