The strategy is to develop and grow Atlas Copco’s market position and global presence in selected niches: construction and demolition tools, portable compressors, pumps and generators, lighting towers, and compaction and paving equipment. This includes further developing specialty rental services and the Construction Technique service business; increasing revenues by offering more customers more services. The business will grow in a way that is economically, environmentally and socially responsible.
The market for construction equipment is very broad. Atlas Copco focuses on select applications.
The key customer segment is of course construction, which accounts for half of Construction Technique’s revenues. Other segments include general and civil engineering contractors involved in infrastructure projects such as road building, non-building activity and/or demolition work. Contractors and rental companies are the main buyers of services including maintenance contracts, spare parts, and repairs.
Construction Technique has a leading or strong market position globally in most of its operations.
Construction Technique’s principal competitors in the market for portable compressors are Doosan Infracore, Kaeser and Sullair. In the market for road construction equipment, the main competitors are Volvo, Caterpillar and Wirtgen. And in the market for construction tools, the main competitors are Sandvik, Furukawa and Wacker Neuson. There are also numerous local, regional and niche competitors. In China, Sany and XCMG are two examples of competitors in road construction equipment.
