We talked with Industrial Technique Business Area President Henrik Elmin about our potential to reduce our customers’ carbon impact and the benefits this focus brings to our organization.
CO2 emissions reduction is already integrated in our business area strategy and in the coming strategy period, we will further strengthen our carbon reduction ambition. We aim to make our low-carbon offering a key differentiator in the market. We will fully integrate CO2 emissions reduction in our business operations and our offering to customers. In conjunction with this, we are also investigating how we can develop a circular business model that we can offer to customers.
Our product development process brings continuous energy-efficiency improvements. A big energy efficiency impact will be achieved by the change from pneumatic to electric tools, something that was started several years ago and that we intend to further accelerate. We also offer services that optimize the use and maintenance of the tool and therefore decrease the customers’ energy use.
During the last few years we have noticed a higher attention to this topic from our customers in the automotive industry, for example. As part of our strategy process, we asked customers about their purchasing criteria today vs. what they predict in five years’ time. We learned that this trend is rapidly accelerating. As part of our new strategy, we are now developing our sales offer to meet this demand.
Yes, we have many initiatives ongoing. We offer data-driven services that can help the customer optimize their production processes. Another interesting area is in optimizing logistics, with initiatives that will reduce time, costs, and CO2 emissions for our customers in Europe. Beyond the direct energy efficiency of our equipment, we are also working more broadly on reducing indirect impact, such as optimizing the adhesive dispensing equipment to enable customers to use less adhesive material, which would mean lower carbon impact.
We take a holistic view on our carbon impact, from internal energy-efficiency projects, a sustainable supply chain, improved logistics flows, virtual meetings, electrification of the vehicle fleet, and more.
We want our current and future employees to see us as climate champions! We also want our colleagues to understand the carbon footprint of the activities they are involved in, day-in and day-out, and make it part of their optimization process and decision making.
We did a calculation of the amount of CO2 emissions that could be avoided annually if all potential customer applications were to switch to one of our most energy-saving products. Learn more about the potential impact here.
