Established in 1998, India Piston Limited (IPL), Ring Blank Unit in Chennai maintains its leadership position in the automotive sector in India by the installation of the very first unit of Atlas Copco’s GA 50 with Variable Speed Drive (VSD) technology in 1998. The partnership of India Piston and Atlas Copco India reached 15 years.
Congratulations are in order when a VSD unit reaches over 100,000 running hours.
P. A. Jayaraman, General Manager at IPL, said "In the inception stage, we wanted to go for an energy efficient solution, which would not give maintenance problems and we decided to go for a compressor from Atlas Copco with the latest VSD technology ."
GA 50 VSD Compressor
A simple, energy efficient and user-friendly machine in terms of maintenance and operation. "A big plus of this compressor is its energy efficiency. We have saved nearly 40% of our total energy cost.", P. A. Jayaraman commented.
This has surpassed the expectation of 35% energy savings by Variable Speed Drive technology compared to Fixed Speed Drive technology.
At IPL Chennai, by installing the GA50 VSD, 114000 kWh of electrical power has been saved. This translates into an amount of 10.3 MINR (122000 Euro) on energy savings and a reduction of 1600 metric tons of carbon-dioxide over the past 15 years which is the equivalent of 5000 trees.
Prasanna Kulkarni - Business Line Manager for Atlas Copco Industrial Air, said, "The GA50 VSD with Variable Speed Drive technology is not only saving companies a lot of electrical power, it also makes them more environmentally friendly."
